Finnair Pulls Helsinki-Dubai Service For Winter 2026/27

Finnair has canceled its Helsinki-Dubai operation for the entire 2026/27 winter season, extending the effect of Middle East instability into its longer-term network plan.

The airline’s customer advisory covers every flight between Helsinki (HEL) and Dubai (DXB) from October 25, 2026, through March 27, 2027. Those dates correspond to the full IATA winter scheduling season.

Finnair said the region’s security situation remained unstable and showed no clear signs of improvement. The decision removes the carrier’s own nonstop link to Dubai for five months rather than applying a shorter rolling suspension.

A temporary disruption becomes a season-long withdrawal

The winter cancellation follows several months of disruption to Finnair’s Middle East operation. The airline suspended Dubai and Doha flights on February 28, 2026, as the conflict affected airspace and operating conditions across the region.

In its first-quarter interim report, Finnair said Dubai remained suspended through the end of the 2025/26 winter season, while Doha cancellations extended into early July. It also operated a special flight through Muscat (MCT) to bring passengers home when conventional rerouting could not be arranged.

Dubai had nevertheless remained in Finnair’s plans for the following winter. Its booking pages advertised direct HEL-DXB flights between October 2026 and March 2027 before the airline removed the season from operation.

The Dubai decision follows a separate change at Doha (DOH). Finnair had already canceled its Helsinki-Doha flights from October 3, 2026, through March 27, 2027, citing commercial reasons rather than security. According to the airline’s Doha advisory, affected customers are being rerouted primarily onto services operated by oneworld partner Qatar Airways.

Together, the decisions remove Finnair-operated flying from both of the Gulf destinations included in its previously published 2026 network plan. The underlying reasons differ, but the result is a substantially reduced Finnair-operated presence in the Middle East during winter 2026/27.

Widebody capacity comes out of Dubai

Finnair has used the Airbus A330 and Airbus A350 on Dubai services, treating the route as a long-haul product despite its shorter stage length relative to the airline’s Asian and North American network. Finnair’s published fleet figures at the end of March 2026 listed its A330s with 279 seats and its A350s in 278- and 321-seat configurations.

The widebody assignment also made Dubai relevant to the airline’s freight operation. Finnair Cargo marketed the preceding winter’s route as a daily service operated primarily with the Airbus A350, with an overnight return from DXB that allowed late cargo acceptance. The cargo schedule ran from October 26 through March 27.

Removing the route therefore eliminates both passenger seats and direct belly-cargo capacity between Finland and the United Arab Emirates for the full winter season. The A330 and A350 can instead be used elsewhere in Finnair’s network, although the airline has not tied the Dubai cancellation to a replacement deployment.

Passengers offered rebooking or refunds

Finnair said it would contact affected passengers by email or text message and begin arranging alternative itineraries after flights are canceled. Availability may be limited, making some rebooking more complicated than a straightforward transfer to another Finnair departure.

Customers may accept the proposed itinerary, make one free change within 14 days on either side of their original travel date, or request a refund. Travelers who bought through an agency must handle changes through the original ticket issuer.
