Buraq Air Signs For 10 Airbus A320neos In Fleet-Modernization Push
Buraq Air, Libya’s first private airline, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 10 Airbus A320neo-family aircraft, becoming a new Airbus customer as it plots a broader network and product refresh.
General Assembly President Fouzi Almiqalh said the deal is a “significant step” in modernizing Buraq’s fleet and expanding to more destinations. He also highlighted the airline’s strategic tie-up with Medsky Airways, noting the neo family’s common platform will let both carriers harmonize products and schedules to improve passenger choice across their combined networks.
Airbus EVP Sales Benoit de Saint-Exupéry welcomed Buraq as a new customer and underscored the A320neo’s position as the single-aisle benchmark for fuel efficiency and flexibility.

Why the A320neo Family?
The A320neo line delivers at least 20% lower fuel burn and CO₂ emissions versus previous-generation narrowbodies, while preserving the familiar A320 cabin that many travelers prefer for its wide single-aisle cross-section. The family also includes the larger-capacity, longer-range A321neo, giving Buraq the option to right-size aircraft for dense regional markets or longer North Africa–Europe sectors as demand grows.
Airbus says all of its current aircraft can fly with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) today, with a target of 100% SAF capability by 2030, aligning with Buraq’s stated goal to bring a more efficient, modern fleet into service.
Strategic Fit With Medsky Airways
Buraq frames the order as foundational to a joint growth plan with Medsky Airways, enabling seamless scheduling, common crew training, and shared technical support. That should translate to more frequencies on core city pairs, smoother connections, and a consistent onboard experience—key elements as the Libyan market reconnects to regional traffic flows.
What’s Next
This is an MoU, so contractual details such as delivery phasing, engine selection packages, and exact neo mix (A320neo vs. A321neo) will be finalized at purchase agreement. For Buraq, the step marks a clear pivot toward a standardized, fuel-efficient narrowbody fleet designed to stabilize operations, cut costs, and support measured international growth.
Context: The A320 family is the world’s most-ordered single-aisle line, with more than 19,000 total orders across all variants and over 11,300 for the neo family as of late 2025—figures that reflect airlines’ ongoing push for lower unit costs and higher cabin comfort on short- and medium-haul routes.
