British Airways’ Cityflyer Targets Sunseekers With 3 New Summer Routes
BA Cityflyer Leans Further Into Leisure Flying
British Airways’ regional arm, BA Cityflyer, is adding three new summer-only routes for 2026, all aimed squarely at beach and coastal getaways. The services will run during the Northern Hemisphere summer season and operate twice weekly, with schedules designed either for long weekends or classic seven-night holidays.
Although BA Cityflyer has traditionally been focused on London City Airport (LCY), only one of these new routes will depart from there, with the others operating from London Stansted (STN) and Glasgow (GLA). All three will be operated by Embraer E190s with a flexible two-class layout including Club Europe.
London City To Toulon: A New Gateway To Saint-Tropez
BA Cityflyer will launch a new route from London City (LCY) to Toulon Hyères (TLN) in the south of France, marketed as a more convenient way to reach the French Riviera and Saint-Tropez without flying into busy hubs like Nice or Marseille.
-
Season: May 23 – September 1, 2026
-
Frequency: 2x weekly (Tuesdays & Saturdays)
-
Block time: Around 2 hours
-
Lead-in fares: From £127 one-way, including baggage
British Airways highlights that Toulon is just 30 miles from Saint-Tropez, making it the closest airport to the famous resort and its surrounding coastal towns.
This new service becomes BA Cityflyer’s fourth French destination, joining Bergerac, Chambéry, and Nice. Commenting on the launch, BA Cityflyer Managing Director Ian Romanis said the route will “give customers more choice and convenience when travelling to the French Riviera, further strengthening our leisure offering from the heart of London.”
London Stansted To Olbia: Sardinia For A Full Week
The second new route will operate from London Stansted (STN) to Olbia (OLB) on the Italian island of Sardinia, putting Costa Smeralda’s beaches within easy reach for travelers from North London and East Anglia.
-
Season: May 23 – September 27, 2026
-
Frequency: 2x weekly, aimed at week-long trips
-
Pattern:
-
Two flights depart Stansted every Saturday
-
One returns Saturday, the other returns Sunday
-
-
Lead-in fares: From £127 one-way
Stansted will be one of two London airports with BA Cityflyer services to Olbia next summer, alongside London City, which will see five weekly flights to the Sardinian resort town. All services will be operated by Embraer E190s, offering Club Europe up front and Euro Traveller in the main cabin.
Glasgow To San Sebastian: Scottish Sunseekers Head For The Basque Coast
Further north, BA Cityflyer is opening a new seasonal link between Glasgow (GLA) and San Sebastian (EAS) in northern Spain, a city famed for its crescent beach and renowned food scene.
-
Season: July 18 – September 8, 2026
-
Frequency: 2x weekly (Tuesdays & Saturdays)
-
Block time: Around 2.5 hours
-
Lead-in fares: From £113 one-way, including a “generous baggage allowance”
Glasgow will join London City (3x weekly) and Edinburgh (2x weekly) as BA Cityflyer’s UK gateways to San Sebastian in summer 2026, giving Scottish travelers a rare non-stop option to the Basque coast.
Bottom line
BA Cityflyer is clearly doubling down on short-haul leisure flying, adding three summer routes that all point to sun, sea, and weekend escapes: London City–Toulon, Stansted–Olbia, and Glasgow–San Sebastian.
With twice-weekly frequencies, competitive starting fares, and E190s offering Club Europe, these routes neatly target both long-weekend getaways and classic seven-night stays, while continuing British Airways’ strategy of using its regional arm to serve niche but high-appeal holiday markets across Europe.
