British Airways Trims July Schedule, Cancels 650 Flights From LHR and LGW

British Airways (BA) is canceling more flights in July as it tries to reduce disruption during the peak summer travel period. The carrier is expected to trim more than 650 flights from London Heathrow (LHR) and London Gatwick (LGW) this month, affecting up to 105,000 passengers.

The cuts target short-haul leisure markets across at least 70 destinations, including popular holiday routes to Málaga (AGP), Ibiza (IBZ), Faro (FAO), Palma de Mallorca (PMI), and Athens (ATH).

BA has framed the move as a preventative step aimed at protecting reliability as the wider aviation sector continues to manage staffing and operational constraints following the sharp post-pandemic demand rebound. The cancellations also align with the UK government’s temporary slot-related measures intended to let airlines reduce schedules in advance rather than risk day-of-travel chaos.

BA previously announced a 10% reduction to its schedule between April and October, and reports indicate the scale of that reduction has now increased further. Customers impacted by the July cancellations are being contacted directly with options to rebook or request a refund, depending on itinerary changes and availability.

Bottom Line

British Airways is canceling more than 650 July departures from LHR and LGW in an effort to stabilize operations during the busiest stretch of the summer. While the move should reduce last-minute disruption, it will still force significant rebooking for affected passengers—especially on high-demand leisure routes.
