Smartwings Slovakia Extends Bratislava-Dakar Charters With Boeing 737 MAX 8
Smartwings Slovakia will operate a limited series of nonstop charter flights between M. R. Štefánik Airport (BTS) in Bratislava and Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS), which serves Dakar, during the fourth quarter of 2026.
The weekly flights are scheduled to begin October 2 and continue through December 4, 2026. Smartwings Slovakia will operate the route under flight numbers 6D6646 and 6D6647 using a Boeing 737-8, commonly known as the Boeing 737 MAX 8, according to the latest schedule filing.
The service will primarily support vacation packages offered by Slovak tour operator Hydrotour, which has added Senegal beach vacations to its fall 2026 program. Unlike a conventional scheduled route designed around local and connecting traffic, the flights will operate as leisure charters timed around weeklong vacation packages.

Bratislava–Dakar Flight Schedule
For flights operating between October 30 and December 4, Smartwings Slovakia has filed the following schedule, with all times local:
6D6646: M. R. Štefánik Airport (BTS) 7:00 a.m. – Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) 12:55 p.m. on Fridays
6D6647: Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) 2:05 p.m. – M. R. Štefánik Airport (BTS) 9:30 p.m. on Fridays
Dakar remains on Greenwich Mean Time throughout the year, while Bratislava observes Central European Time after Slovakia’s October daylight-saving transition. The published late-season schedule therefore provides a block time of approximately six hours and 55 minutes from Bratislava Airport (BTS) to Dakar Airport (DSS) and six hours and 25 minutes on the return.
The aircraft will spend one hour and 10 minutes on the ground at Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) before departing for Slovakia.
Earlier October flights may use different local times because Bratislava remains on Central European Summer Time until October 25. The published schedule above specifically applies to the October 30 through December 4 portion of the program.
Latest Filing Expands the Original Plan
Bratislava Airport originally announced the Senegal program in early July with eight planned rotations during October and November. That announcement identified the Boeing 737-800 as the operating aircraft.
The later reservation-system filing indicates that the program has since been revised. Flights are now scheduled through December 4, and the Boeing 737 MAX 8 has replaced the 737-800 in the aircraft field.
A weekly operation from October 2 through December 4 would produce 10 round trips, two more than the airport initially announced. Charter schedules remain subject to tour operator demand and operational adjustments, but the newer filing appears to represent an expansion of the original program rather than a simple aircraft substitution.
Boeing 737 MAX Offers More Range Margin
The approximately 3,027-mile route between Bratislava Airport (BTS) and Dakar Airport (DSS) is an unusually long mission for a European leisure charter operated by a single-aisle aircraft.
The Boeing 737-800 initially announced for the route has a published range of up to 2,800 nautical miles, or 3,222 miles. That nominal figure is only modestly greater than the direct distance between the two airports and does not account for winds, air traffic control routing, required fuel reserves, payload, or possible diversion requirements.
By comparison, Boeing lists the 737-8 with a range of up to 3,500 nautical miles, or approximately 4,028 miles. The MAX therefore provides substantially more operational flexibility for the long Bratislava–Dakar sector.
The additional range margin should be particularly useful on the northbound flight from Dakar Airport (DSS) to Bratislava Airport (BTS), where seasonal winds, routing requirements, and passenger baggage can affect fuel and payload planning.
The aircraft change does not necessarily indicate that a 737-800 could not operate the route. Smartwings has used previous-generation 737s on long leisure sectors. However, the 737 MAX 8 gives the airline greater flexibility to carry a full charter payload without approaching the older aircraft’s nominal performance limits.
Up to 189 Passengers per Flight
Smartwings operates the Boeing 737 MAX 8 in more than one cabin configuration. The airline lists a high-density layout with 189 economy seats and a two-class version containing 18 business-class and 150 economy-class seats.
A vacation charter is most likely to use the 189-seat all-economy layout, although Smartwings Slovakia has not confirmed the exact aircraft registration or cabin configuration assigned to the Dakar flights.
If all 10 rotations operate with 189 seats, Smartwings Slovakia could offer up to 1,890 seats in each direction during the program, or 3,780 one-way seats across the entire operation.
Smartwings’ 737 MAX 8 measures approximately 129 feet and 7 inches long, has a wingspan of about 117 feet, and cruises at speeds of up to Mach 0.82. The airline publishes a range of 6,584 kilometers for the type.
Smartwings Group added its 14th Boeing 737 MAX 8 in June 2026. Its wider fleet then included 49 aircraft, including 23 Boeing 737-800s, two Boeing 737-900ERs, Airbus A220s, Airbus A320s, and business jets.
Although the flights will operate under Smartwings Slovakia’s 6D airline code, aircraft can be shared across the wider Smartwings Group according to seasonal fleet requirements.
Dakar Charters Target Senegal’s Resort Market
The charter program is designed primarily around Senegal’s Atlantic coast resorts rather than city-break demand to central Dakar.
Hydrotour is promoting accommodations in Pointe Sarène, including the large Riu Baobab resort. Pointe Sarène is south of Dakar and approximately 31 miles from Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS), making the airport a practical gateway for packaged beach vacations.
Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) is located in Diass, approximately 29 miles southeast of Dakar. It replaced the former Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport as Senegal’s primary international gateway and handles flights throughout Africa as well as services to Europe, North America, and the Middle East.
The direct charter eliminates the need for Slovak vacationers to begin their trip at Vienna International Airport (VIE) or connect through another European hub. That convenience is particularly important for package-tour passengers carrying checked baggage and traveling as families or organized groups.
Senegal Returns to Smartwings’ Bratislava Program
The 2026 flights are not the Smartwings Group’s first Senegal charters from Bratislava Airport (BTS).
Smartwings announced weekly Senegal service as part of its Bratislava winter charter schedule in October 2022, alongside flights to Oman, Cape Verde, and Zanzibar. The upcoming operation is therefore more accurately described as the return of Senegal to the airline’s Slovak charter program rather than the creation of an entirely new market.
The difference in 2026 is the clearly defined Hydrotour vacation program, the later operating dates, and the latest plan to deploy the more capable Boeing 737 MAX 8 throughout the season.
