Royal Jordanian Airlines has unveiled plans to launch a new nonstop service connecting Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) with Amman Queen Alia International Airport (AMM). The route, set to begin on May 2, 2025, will offer passengers a direct link between the U.S. capital and Jordan’s vibrant cultural hub.

Route Details

The new service will operate three times per week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flights will be conducted using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, renowned for their fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. With lie-flat business class seats and upgraded economy amenities, Royal Jordanian aims to deliver a premium travel experience on this long-haul route.

Flight RJ611 will depart Washington Dulles at 10:00 p.m., arriving in Amman the next day at 4:35 p.m. local time. The return flight, RJ612, will leave Amman at 1:30 p.m. and land in Washington D.C. at 7:10 p.m. local time.

Strategic Importance

This new route reflects Royal Jordanian’s strategy to expand its footprint in North America. The airline currently serves Chicago (ORD), Detroit (DTW), and New York (JFK). Washington Dulles, a major hub for international travel, offers significant connectivity to destinations across the U.S. and beyond.

Samer Majali, Royal Jordanian’s CEO, emphasized the importance of this route: “The addition of Washington D.C. to our network strengthens the ties between Jordan and the U.S., providing both business and leisure travelers with a convenient and efficient travel option.”

Tourism and Cultural Exchange

Amman, Jordan’s capital, is a gateway to some of the Middle East’s most iconic attractions, including Petra, the Dead Sea, and Wadi Rum. The new route is expected to boost tourism to Jordan, which has seen a steady rise in visitors seeking cultural and historical experiences.

Conversely, the service provides U.S.-based travelers, particularly Jordanian-Americans and the Middle Eastern diaspora, with improved access to family and business connections in Jordan.

Competitive Landscape

Royal Jordanian joins a competitive market for Middle Eastern carriers serving the U.S. Etihad Airways, Emirates, and Qatar Airways all operate routes connecting major U.S. cities to their respective hubs. However, Royal Jordanian’s direct service from Washington D.C. to Amman offers a unique advantage for passengers seeking a direct connection to Jordan.

Looking Ahead

Tickets for the new Washington D.C. to Amman service are now available for purchase on Royal Jordanian’s website. The airline plans to support the route with marketing initiatives targeting both leisure and corporate travelers.

As Royal Jordanian continues its North American expansion, the Washington D.C. route represents a significant step in connecting the U.S. to Jordan’s rich culture, history, and economic opportunities.
