Shenzhen Airlines Brings New Airbus A350 to London as Heathrow Flights Go Daily
Shenzhen Airlines will deploy its newly introduced Airbus A350-900 between Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) beginning August 19, 2026.
The next-generation widebody will initially operate three of the route’s five weekly flights, replacing the Airbus A330-300 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The carrier will continue using the A330-300 on Wednesdays and Fridays.
A larger expansion will follow on September 17, when Shenzhen Airlines increases the route to daily service. The Airbus A350-900 will operate four of the seven weekly flights, while the Airbus A330-300 will cover the remaining three departures, according to the airline’s latest London schedule filing.

Two aviation newsletters. Zero fluff.
The updated filing moves the daily increase slightly earlier than Shenzhen Airlines’ previous schedule, which had shown seven weekly Airbus A330 flights beginning September 22.
Airbus A350 Flights Begin August 19
During the initial phase from August 19 through September 16, Shenzhen Airlines’ flight schedule will be divided between the two Airbus widebody types.
ZH887: Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX) 1:55 p.m. – London Heathrow Airport (LHR) 7:50 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays with the Airbus A350-900.
ZH887: Shenzhen Airport (SZX) 1:40 p.m. – Heathrow Airport (LHR) 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays with the Airbus A330-300.
Return Flight ZH888 will leave Heathrow Airport (LHR) at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the A350. Saturday A350 flights and Wednesday and Friday A330 services are scheduled to depart at 10:05 p.m.
All times are local. London remains seven hours behind Shenzhen during the August and September operating period.
The scheduled flying time varies slightly by aircraft and operating day. A350 flights from Shenzhen Airport (SZX) to Heathrow Airport (LHR) are scheduled for approximately 12 hours and 55 minutes, while the westbound A330 operation can take up to 13 hours and 20 minutes. Return flights are scheduled for approximately 12 hours and five to 10 minutes.
Daily Service Begins September 17
From September 17, Shenzhen Airlines will add Monday and Sunday flights, increasing the route from five to seven weekly departures.
The Airbus A350-900 will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Airbus A330-300 will fly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Daily service is a more significant capacity development than the aircraft substitution itself. Shenzhen Airlines’ new A350 is listed with 312 seats, while its existing A330-300 has 309 seats.
With three A350 flights and two A330 flights, the initial five-times-weekly schedule will provide 1,554 seats in each direction. An all-A330 schedule at the same frequency would have offered 1,545 seats, meaning the A350 deployment initially adds only nine seats per week.
Once daily flights begin, Shenzhen Airlines will offer approximately 2,175 seats in each direction each week. That represents a capacity increase of about 40% compared with the five-times-weekly schedule.
The frequency increase should also improve itinerary flexibility for business travelers and connecting passengers. Daily service allows travelers to avoid building trips around gaps in the schedule and makes Shenzhen Airlines more competitive with one-stop options through other European, Middle Eastern, and Asian hubs.
New Aircraft Does Not Necessarily Mean More Premium Seats
Shenzhen Airlines began scheduled Airbus A350 operations in late June 2026, initially using the aircraft on domestic flights from Shenzhen Airport (SZX) to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH), Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA), and several other cities.
Those domestic assignments gave the airline an opportunity to familiarize crews and ground teams with the aircraft before deploying it on a long-haul international route. The London service will be one of the first major international uses of Shenzhen Airlines’ new flagship.
Schedule data lists the A350-900 in a 312-seat, two-class configuration with 32 business-class seats and 280 economy seats.
That differs from Shenzhen Airlines’ published Airbus A330-300 layout, which contains 18 business-class seats, 24 premium-economy seats, and 267 economy seats. The A330 carries 309 passengers in total. Shenzhen Airlines’ official fleet page lists 60 inches of pitch in business class, 35 inches in premium economy, and 31 inches in economy.
The A350 therefore adds 14 business-class seats compared with the A330 but does not appear to offer a dedicated premium-economy cabin in the scheduled configuration.
Passengers specifically purchasing premium economy should pay close attention to the assigned aircraft and fare availability. Equipment substitutions remain possible, but the published schedule indicates that the cabin products will differ depending on the operating day.
A350 Offers Operational Advantages on the 5,960-Mile Route
The Airbus A350-900 is well suited to the approximately 5,960-mile nonstop route between Shenzhen Airport (SZX) and Heathrow Airport (LHR).
Airbus lists the aircraft with a typical three-class capacity of 300 to 350 passengers and a range of approximately 8,500 nautical miles. The aircraft is powered exclusively by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines and incorporates a carbon-fiber-intensive fuselage, advanced wings, and modern aerodynamic systems.
Its range is far greater than required for the London route, but that additional capability provides operational margin for changing winds, airspace restrictions, payload requirements, and alternative routings.
The A350 also offers lower fuel consumption and operating costs than many previous-generation widebody aircraft. Airbus says the type can reduce fuel burn and carbon dioxide emissions per seat by approximately 25% compared with older competing aircraft.
For passengers, the A350 provides a wider cabin, lower cabin altitude, larger overhead storage, quieter interior, and modern air-conditioning and lighting systems. Those improvements are particularly relevant on a flight lasting more than 12 hours.
The A330-300 remains a capable long-haul aircraft, and Shenzhen Airlines has used it successfully on the route for years. However, introducing the A350 should give the airline a more efficient platform as it moves toward a daily schedule.
London Was Shenzhen Airlines’ First Intercontinental Route
Shenzhen Airlines launched service between Shenzhen Airport (SZX) and Heathrow Airport (LHR) on October 30, 2018.
The route was the airline’s first intercontinental service and initially operated three times weekly with the 309-seat Airbus A330-300. Heathrow promoted the route as a new connection between London and one of southern China’s most important financial, technology, and commercial centers.
Shenzhen Airlines operates from Terminal 2 at Heathrow Airport (LHR). The carrier has been a member of Star Alliance since 2012, allowing passengers to connect with alliance partners and access eligible Star Alliance facilities at the airport.
The airline is currently the only operator offering nonstop flights between Shenzhen Airport (SZX) and Heathrow Airport (LHR). Travelers otherwise need to connect through cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Doha, or Dubai.
At Shenzhen Airport (SZX), passengers can connect to Shenzhen Airlines’ extensive domestic network, which covers major cities throughout China as well as selected destinations elsewhere in Asia. The carrier says it operates more than 250 domestic and international routes.
That connectivity broadens the commercial value of the London route beyond passengers whose journeys begin or end in Shenzhen.
The Frequency Increase Is the Bigger Development
The Airbus A350 will provide a newer aircraft and a larger business-class cabin, but it will not materially increase the number of seats on each flight.
The A350 has only three more seats than the 309-seat A330-300. Its importance lies instead in operating efficiency, passenger comfort, cargo capability, and supporting Shenzhen Airlines’ longer-term widebody strategy.
The daily frequency increase will have a much greater effect on the market. Moving from five to seven weekly flights adds approximately 621 seats in each direction and makes the service available every day of the week.
That should strengthen the route’s appeal to corporate travelers, passengers visiting friends and relatives, tour operators, freight customers, and travelers connecting through Shenzhen Airport (SZX).
Bottom Line
Shenzhen Airlines will introduce the Airbus A350-900 between Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) on August 19, 2026.
The A350 will initially operate three of five weekly flights, serving the route on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Airbus A330-300 aircraft will continue operating on Wednesdays and Fridays.
From September 17, Shenzhen Airlines will increase the route to daily service. The A350 will fly four times weekly, while the A330 will operate the remaining three departures.
The 312-seat A350 offers only three more seats than Shenzhen Airlines’ 309-seat A330, meaning the aircraft change itself will produce almost no capacity increase. The more important development is the move to daily flights, which will raise weekly capacity by approximately 40%.
For passengers, the A350 introduces a newer and quieter aircraft with a larger business-class cabin. However, schedule data shows no dedicated premium-economy section, meaning the cabin product will differ considerably between A350 and A330 operating days.
