TUI has announced a new route connecting Cardiff Airport (CWL) to Fuerteventura (FUE) in the Canary Islands. The inaugural flight is scheduled for December 20, 2025, offering Welsh travelers a new option for reaching the sun-soaked destination. This marks TUI’s first direct service from Cardiff to Fuerteventura, a popular choice for beach lovers and adventure seekers alike.

Route Details

The Cardiff-Fuerteventura route will run seasonally, catering to travelers looking for winter sun and summer escapes. While the frequency of flights has yet to be disclosed, TUI has confirmed that the service will extend through the summer of 2026. The route will be operated using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, known for their reliability and passenger comfort.

Fares for the new service are expected to be competitively priced, with the option to book flight-only or as part of a package holiday, including accommodations and activities.

Expansion of TUI’s Cardiff Operations

In addition to the Fuerteventura route, TUI has announced plans to enhance its presence at Cardiff Airport. Starting December 2025, the airline will increase flights to Gran Canaria (LPA) and Tenerife (TFS), further solidifying its commitment to the Welsh market.

TUI is also introducing long-haul flights from Cardiff to Barbados (BGI) and Cancun (CUN) in early 2026. These expansions reflect the airline’s strategy to offer a diverse range of destinations to meet growing passenger demand.

Why Fuerteventura?

Fuerteventura, the second-largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, is renowned for its golden beaches, unique volcanic landscapes, and mild climate. Popular attractions include Corralejo Natural Park, the island’s famous “popcorn beach,” and world-class windsurfing and kitesurfing spots. Its proximity to the UK makes it a convenient choice for travelers seeking a short-haul getaway.

Impact on Cardiff Airport

The new route underscores TUI’s growing partnership with Cardiff Airport, which has been actively working to expand its network. Spencer Birns, CEO of Cardiff Airport, expressed excitement about the announcement: “This new connection to Fuerteventura is fantastic news for our passengers. It’s a testament to TUI’s commitment to providing diverse travel options from Cardiff.”

Looking Ahead

The launch of this route is part of a broader trend of airlines enhancing regional connectivity and offering more direct international services. With additional routes and an expanded presence at Cardiff, TUI continues to solidify its position as a leading choice for UK travelers.

Passengers can start booking flights to Fuerteventura through TUI’s website and travel agencies, with the first departures just in time for the festive season of 2025.
