Jetstar Airways has introduced a new collection of uniforms for its frontline staff, marking the first major update in two decades. This announcement, part of the airline’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, coincides with plans for fleet expansion and a potential focus on international routes from the Gold Coast.
New Uniform Details
Designed by Australian fashion icon Genevieve Smart, the uniforms showcase a modern aesthetic inspired by sunsets viewed from an aircraft window. The collection features a softened orange and blue color palette and offers mix-and-match options, including blazers, tailored skirts, tapered trousers, shirt dresses, polos, and overcoats. Pilots’ uniforms now feature navy-blue designs, replacing the traditional black, with updated epaulettes and optional neck scarves.
Approximately 6,000 staff members across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Japan will transition to the new attire. The uniforms are produced in partnership with Melbourne-based Workwear Group and emphasize sustainability through a recycling initiative that repurposes old uniforms into raw materials like cotton and polyester.
Jetstar CEO Stephanie Tully highlighted the milestone:
“These uniforms symbolize a new era for Jetstar, reflecting our growth and evolution while ensuring our crew feel confident and comfortable as they serve our passengers.”
Fleet Expansion and Gold Coast Growth
Jetstar has introduced its first Airbus A320neo aircraft, which offers enhanced fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and increased passenger capacity. The aircraft will operate on domestic routes starting in December 2024, featuring 188 seats, larger overhead bins, in-seat power sockets, and seatback device holders.
The Gold Coast remains a strategic hub for Jetstar, serving as a major base for crew and operations. With a recent $260 million airport expansion designed to accommodate increased international traffic, Jetstar has hinted at potential growth in international services. New flights to Hamilton and Dunedin, New Zealand, are slated to begin in June 2025, reflecting the airline’s continued focus on expanding connectivity.
Promotional Efforts
To celebrate these developments, Jetstar launched a “Return For Free” sale, offering discounted fares across various routes. This initiative, coinciding with Black Friday, underscores Jetstar’s commitment to providing affordable travel options for passengers.
Looking Ahead
Jetstar’s uniform redesign, fleet enhancements, and regional focus signal a transformative phase for the airline. With its emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction, Jetstar is positioning itself to meet evolving travel demands while strengthening its presence in competitive markets.
