Rossiya Airlines Converts Nine SSJ100s To All-Economy Layout

Rossiya Airlines has completed a cabin reconfiguration project for nine of its Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) aircraft, removing the business class cabin in favor of a single-class, 100-seat economy configuration.

Key Details

This change is part of a broader response to import sanctions, which have limited access to original cabin components. As a result, new domestic design solutions and interior modifications were required. The project involved collaboration between Yakovlev, UAC-Engineering, and Aviation Interiors.

Operator & Manufacturer Statements

Dmitry Borisenko, Deputy Director General of PJSC Yakovlev, noted the project’s successful completion despite sanctions-related challenges:

“The requirements are dictated by the customer, and we, as the manufacturer, are accommodating.”

Rossiya Airlines CEO Yan Burg emphasized the importance of the reconfiguration for fleet optimization:

“This project provides greater flexibility. For certain services, it’s more appropriate to use aircraft with a full economy layout.”

Efficiency & Market Position

The 100-seat SSJ100 remains Russia’s only regional jet in this size category and is comparable to aircraft like the Embraer E175/E190 and Bombardier CRJ700/900. It is marketed as combining mainline aircraft comfort with the economy of regional jets, including features such as:
