flydubai (FZ) has launched nonstop flights from Dubai International (DXB) to Iași (IAS), becoming the first UAE carrier to serve Romania’s Moldova region. The route operates twice weekly and complements a frequency increase on Dubai–Bucharest (OTP) to three daily flights. In total, flydubai will now offer up to 21 weekly UAE–Romania services.

The New Route At A Glance

Why Iași, Why Now

flydubai has grown Romania steadily since 2012, citing average annual passenger growth of roughly 16% on Dubai–Bucharest. Adding Iași taps into:

Bucharest Frequency Increase

  • Bucharest (OTP) increases to 3x daily, improving day-of-week coverage, connection banks at DXB, and schedule choice for corporate and leisure travelers.

Fares And Booking

  • DXB→IAS: from AED 1,600 (Economy Lite) and AED 8,000 (Business) one-way

  • IAS→DXB: from EUR 380 (Economy Lite) and EUR 2,000 (Business) one-way
Note: Fares are entry-level and subject to availability and seasonal variation.

Schedules

Part Of A Broader Europe Push

  • New/renewed Eastern and Northern Europe points:

    • Chișinău, Moldova (KIV) launched Sept 17

    • Vilnius, Lithuania (VNO) launching December

    • Riga, Latvia (RIX) launching December
This strengthens flydubai’s footprint beyond CEE gateways and diversifies seasonal risk.

Local & Airport Impact

Iași International’s management highlights that IAS is now the only airport in the Moldova region with direct UAE access. Expected benefits include:

  • Faster business links with Dubai’s finance, tech, health, and logistics hubs

  • Tourism uplift to Iași and northern Romania

  • Cargo and e-commerce opportunities tied to Dubai distribution networks

Destination Snapshot: Iași, Romania

  • Romania’s “cultural capital,” famed for universities, museums, and historic religious sites

  • Architectural highlights: Palace of Culture (with four museums), Three Holy Hierarchs Monastery, Metropolitan Cathedral, and Saint Nicholas Church

  • Green spaces: Copou Park (1834) and Romania’s largest botanical garden

  • Day trips: UNESCO-listed Painted Monasteries of Bucovina; cross-border visit to Chișinău

  • Food to try: sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls), ciorbă (sour soups), mici (grilled sausages), papanasi (cheese doughnuts)

Practical Tips

  • Best seasons: Spring (Apr–May) and Autumn (Sep–Oct) for mild weather and lower crowds

  • Getting around: Compact historic core; public transport and ride-hailing available

  • Sustainable choices: Family-run guesthouses, local eateries, walking tours, and public transit reduce footprint and support the community

Bottom Line

flydubai’s entry into Iași gives northeastern Romania a nonstop gateway to Dubai for the first time, while the Bucharest increase to triple-daily consolidates the carrier’s Romanian presence. With Emirates codeshare support and growing Eastern/Northern Europe coverage, the airline continues to stitch secondary European cities into Dubai’s long-haul network.
