Dominican low-cost carrier Arajet has announced plans to launch direct flights to New York City (JFK), Miami (MIA), and San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU), expanding its footprint in the United States. This strategic move aims to position Arajet as a regional air travel leader while enhancing connectivity between the Dominican Republic and key destinations in the Americas.
Key Details of the New Routes
Arajet’s flights to the U.S. will be operated with the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, known for their fuel efficiency and modern passenger amenities. The airline will offer competitive fares, catering to both leisure and business travelers seeking affordable and convenient travel options. The planned schedules are designed to provide seamless connections for passengers traveling to and from the Dominican Republic.
- New York City (JFK): Arajet plans to offer daily service, targeting the large Dominican diaspora in the New York metropolitan area.
- Miami (MIA): Flights will operate four times per week, facilitating travel to one of the busiest hubs for Latin American and Caribbean connections.
- San Juan (SJU): Aimed at bolstering intra-Caribbean travel, this route will run three times per week.
Strengthening the Dominican Republic’s Aviation Hub
These new routes are part of Arajet’s broader strategy to establish Santo Domingo’s Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) as a central hub for regional air travel. Arajet recently secured approvals under the Dominican Republic’s Open Skies agreement with the United States, enabling the airline to expand its network and increase the frequency of flights to U.S. destinations.
CEO Víctor Pacheco Méndez commented, “These new services reinforce our commitment to offering affordable, direct travel options that connect the Dominican Republic with major U.S. markets. We are proud to play a role in enhancing accessibility for both tourists and the Dominican diaspora.”
Focus on Growth and Sustainability
Arajet’s fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft allows the airline to operate efficiently on longer routes while maintaining low operating costs. The airline has also committed to sustainable operations by leveraging the MAX 8’s lower fuel consumption and reduced carbon emissions compared to older aircraft models.
The expansion into the U.S. aligns with Arajet’s goal to capture a growing share of the Caribbean and North American travel markets. Additionally, the airline is exploring new partnerships to increase connectivity within the region and beyond.
